Glossa is an application designed to aid in the development of lexicons and grammar documentation for low-resource languages. It serves as a valuable tool for translation and language development efforts.
This project holds a special place in my heart, and I'm deeply passionate about it. Unfortunately, funding for Glossa dried up, leading to a halt in development. However, a working beta version is available for download at Glossa.io.
I personally contributed to the UX design and some of the front-end code. We have successfully implemented a transcription interface, a peer-to-peer documentation sharing feature (which doesn't require an internet connection, as low-resource language development often occurs in offline settings), a tagging system utilizing the Outline of Cultural Materials (OCM) (for more information, refer to the HRAF), and several NGO teams have begun actively testing the software.
Matthew Moran spearheaded the development of Glossa using Electron, Angular, and a Material Design front-end framework.
Glossa is cross-platform and was intended to serve as a functional replacement for a tool called FieldWorks. FieldWorks is a .NET Windows-only application in the same field.
The website and the beta version are still accessible and downloadable. I encourage you to explore them further.
